Alan: I am from Dublin, Ireland.
Q: How long have you been an English tutor at Englishtown?
Alan: I've been a full-time English tutor at Englishtown for about one and half years. Before that, I was teaching English in Beijing.
Q: What are some common problems that Hong Kong students encounter when they learn English?
Alan: Most Hong Kong people have long working hours. So it is difficult for them to go to traditional English language schools after work, as they would prefer to stay at home instead to relax. Also, they lack the opportunity to speak in English socially and in their jobs.

Q: How different is Englishtown from other English language courses?
Alan: Englishtown is an interesting combination of both online and offline learning. Students can talk to an English tutor online in our interactive virtual classroom anytime, anywhere. English learning can easily fit into their busy schedule, while they work at their own pace. They get premium flexibility.
On the other hand, the English Life Club offers my students the chance to talk to the tutor, make friends with other students and speak English informally during social activities. They can also interact face-to-face with me or another English tutor in small group sessions. In this way, students gain maximum exposure to an English-speaking environment.

Q: What is the most memorable experience you've had as an English tutor at Englishtown?
Alan: I remember once we organized a boat trip for our students. We had so much fun that day! Tutor and students became friends and formed a community. We all shared the same goal: to step outside the classroom and use English to get to know each other better. I was very pleased with that trip because I saw that English learning really works here at Englishtown.

Q: What one thing would you suggest to someone wanting to improve her English?
Alan: I would tell her to grasp every opportunity to immerse herself in an English-speaking environment. There is always something to learn from using English in your daily life.
